Privacy & cookies

What Cents Matter collects, why, and how to change your mind.

In short

Cents Matter is a personal blog. I want to know which essays land and which tools get used — nothing more. By default, no analytics or advertising cookies are set until you consent. You can change your choice any time from the Cookie preferences link in the footer.

What gets collected

Strictly necessary

A small amount of data is stored in your browser so the site can remember your theme choice and your cookie preferences. These are always on — without them the site can’t function. No personal data leaves your device.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records anonymous page views, the country you’re visiting from, the device class, and which tools you interact with. IP addresses are anonymised. Data is processed by Google LLC under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. You can withdraw consent at any time and the cookies will be cleared on the next page load.

Advertising

Cents Matter does not currently serve personalised ads. The advertising category exists so future ad partners (if any) cannot drop cookies without your explicit consent.

Legal basis (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies (visitors from the EU/UK), the legal basis for processing is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Consent is requested through the banner you see on your first visit. Strictly necessary cookies rely on legitimate interests in operating the site (Article 6(1)(f)).

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For EU/UK visitors that is your national data protection authority; for Australian visitors that is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changing your choice

Use the Cookie preferenceslink in the footer to reopen the banner and update your choice. Clearing your browser’s storage for this site will also reset your consent.
